Educational Video 2.0 STEMinternational – interactive learning videos for combined subject and subject-specific study preparation and accompaniment
Educational Video 2.0 STEMinternational is a digital offer for the combined professional and technical language preparation for the study of a STEM subject. The core idea is to use modern software for the interactive design of videos to realize a combination of technical and subject-specific learning opportunities in a single learning video. This makes resource-saving and sustainable learning of subject-specific and subject-specific content possible.
In the first phase, the target group consists of refugees, foreign first-year students and participants in exchange programs who attend or will attend math lectures at a German university. In the second phase, the target group will be extended to German STEM exchange students in Spain and to participants of English-language STEM events at German universities. The project is aimed at around 100,000 learners each year with the goal of enabling early learning of the specialist language, so that during the study, a focus and concentration on the subject can be done.

The use of technical language and its integration in the grammatical structures as well as in the spoken and written language gives little chance of learning in advance of a degree course. Foreign students are therefore confronted for the first time at the beginning of their studies with the terminology common in their studies, which can make it difficult to focus on content-related aspects and the success of their studies. At this point, the project „Educational Video 2.0 STEMinternational“ starts with the goal of facilitating a combined preparation for the technical and technical components of a STEM study at an early stage.

In the first funding phase, ten subjects of basic mathematical education in the MINT subjects are selected, and interactive learning videos are developed to enable learning of both subject-specific content and the required technical language. The subject of Mathematics was chosen because the material to be taught here is needed in almost all STEM study programs: The subjects covered in the videos are determined based on experience and the interdisciplinary minimum requirements in mathematics. As a learning environment, interactive videos were chosen because of extensive preparatory work and a wealth of experience in project management. This digital medium has a high degree of acceptance among students and preserves the in-depth specialist and technical expertise in a resource-saving and sustainable way for a large group of students Benefits are made permanently accessible at all times and places.

Success factors are the size of the target group (about 100,000 learners per year) and a sustainable, permanent, time and location independent availability with a very low maintenance. Another success factor is the scalability of the project, which can be reached at any time for all interested users and organizations through a central online presence. Risk factors for a cross-university dissemination of the offer represent the acquisition and regular activity of multipliers. For this reason, a stabilization concept is developed and tested during the project.

Promotion:
Predominantly staff (employees German as a foreign language, technical assistance, film team for technical implementation)
Composition: € 50,000 external funding (Stifterverband, Daimler Fund, Daimler and Benz Foundation), € 9,100 of own funds, additional own shares: Professional video equipment and film studio: approx. € 10,000
The produced educational videos for professional and technical usage are almost maintenance-free and are permanently available. A sustainability and steadiness is ensured.
Transferability
The produced educational videos are provided on a central homepage, so that the use is not limited to the project partners, but is possible worldwide. The overall concept is transferable to other subjects as well as to other languages, which should be implemented in the second phase of the project. This increases the target group size of 100,000 learners announced in the first phase many times over.
